VOLUNTEERING

Volunteers are a brilliant support to us here at ECH. From recording podcasts to helping at reminiscence events, we're always looking for more helping hands for our projects. You can find out more about the work we do in our newsletter and see examples of our previous exhibitions and projects under Hidden-History Archive.

Our Volunteering

We have a wide range of roles for our volunteers, such as:

  • Creating content for our Digital Forum
  • Assisting with Throwback Friday reminiscence sessions
  • Cataloguing and working in our archive
  • Transcribing oral history interviews

We understand that you may be eager to help with multiple tasks, but we kindly ask that you start with one opportunity first and only select one role during the application process. Once you are on our system, you will have the opportunity to try out other activities.

How to get involved?

To provide us with more information about yourself and your interests, kindly fill out our online application form. In case you prefer a Word version of the form, please feel free to contact Judith or Kaaren on 07411536339  telephone, WhatsApp call, email office@ech.org.uk or message.

Archive Volunteer

As part of our project 'Secrets Shared: Unlocking Hidden History' funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are currently recruiting volunteers to support the Project Archivist in improving the archive's digital accessibility, through cataloguing and digitalising materials. The project also aims to increase opportunities for community engagement, as well as to disseminate digital and archival skills to volunteers and the community.

Oral History Volunteer

We're looking for volunteers to support upcoming oral history projects, helping record interviews with community members across East London and transcribe fascinating social histories. In this role, you’ll take on two specific aspects – oral history interviews, which focuses on collection of stories, and transcribing, adapting our audio files to usable text for exhibitions and publications. These two tasks form help us add to our ever growing Hidden-Histories Archive.
